Ground Stories

I took this August 10, 2020, about five miles SW of Medora, ND. Why would one take a picture of this? While on a long walk with family members, I came across this and instinctively took a picture. At the time I didn't really know why, but later in the day I did. When finishing the walk, I sat on the couch inside our cabin and pondered on this picture. As I sat in silence, something popped into my mind of what this means. While most scenery in Medora is beautiful from the interstate, roads and an up-close view, there are some parts we don't see until up close. This is one of those. When seeing it up close, it reminds me that not everything is beautiful like the Painted Canyons and wonderful formations. There is dry, drought like parts of ground that are amid all the color. Expectations are always it will be beautiful when heading to Medora, but reality says otherwise. There are parts of less colorful and alluring. This reminds me that it's okay not to be okay. Not everything can be beautiful and wonderful all the time. Life happens where the ground may look cracked and gray, very dry as well as no life. Applying this concept to my life has allowed me to feel the things I need to feel and not be my usual joyful self. We are all allowed to cry and laugh in the same day as well as be sad and peaceful at the same time. Remember, feeling your emotions is something that is a requirement of you.
